Behind the scenes it has been a busy couple of weeks.
We’ve secured the support of many great sponsors
Pimoroni, 4tronix, RyanTeck
And we have also have the backing from Blackpool Illuminations themselves. The whole event is focussed around using the Raspberry Pi and making it light up some LED’s in a controlled sequence – similar to those that are found on the Blackpool Tower.
On Wednesday 18th June, 10 schools will come together at Mereside Primary School to take part in the 1st Hackpool event of its kind! The children will programme a string of 50 LED’s using the Raspberry Pi – supported by both teachers and STEM ambassadors this is a first of it kind event.
Once the coding has taken place – the winning school (to be judged by some very special guests) will get to use their winning code on Blackpool Illuminations very own 24 foot indoor tower. The tower is going to be placed in the Hounds Hill shopping centre during the Illuminations throughout September and October – then the school will be delivered to the winning school to keep till Easter.
There is also another fantastic prize that will be posted on the day of the competition – so keep a close eye on this blog to find out more !
